Hong Kong Container wharf

 

 

Hong Kong Kwai Chung Container wharf was once the world largest one in 2005, 2007 and I am not sure it is now the world largest or not...

They are situated at Kwai Chung near Lai King MTR station, across the harbour, there are thousand of container and a lot of automatic crank loading and unloading between the container ship and the wharf!

Converted from a vantage colonial Police Station headquarters of Southern Kowloon, Now it has all kind of branded stuff including the watches from Switzerland. A magnificent shopping centre for the local and Foreigners.

Chung King Mansion is on the left side of the picture whereby you can find all kinds of Indian food, Halal Food and Pakistani Curry.

The Chung King Mention was built 30 years ago., It contains a lot of budget Hostel and Inn Nowadays.


A Mysterious Place to go. On the Right is the Sheraton Hotel where the Famous Celestial Court Restaurant is situated.

The Star Ferry traces its origins to 1880 when Dorabjee Naorojee Mithaiwala, a Parsee cook, embarked on a new vocation. He began a ferry service across Victoria Harbour with his steamboat, the Morning Star. The fledgling service was known as the Kowloon Ferry Company.

 

A local newspaper reported in 1888 that the ferry ran at all hours between Pedders Wharf and Tsim Shat Tui on a 40-minute to one-hour trip.

 

On Mondays and Fridays, the service halted for the boat’s coaling. By 1890, the Kowloon Ferry boasted four single-deck Star Ferries. Later on, the ferries acquired a second deck. It was used to be HKD0.05 in 1950's and was increased to HK$0.1 riot and demonstration was made for those lower income people.

 

Now adult fare is HKD2.20. it is still very cheap... Make a trip to cross the harbour in 5 minutes.
